At home

As colours in the sky appeared over the horizon and the surrounds began to brighten, I stood outside with August quiet in my arms and took a long, deep, breath of the sweet country air. I closed my eyes and listened to the birds singing all around, waking to the new dawn as the first sun rays rested on me.
I felt a gentle tap on my ankle and looked down to find a cheerful dog lying ready on her back. I scratched her belly with my foot and she closed her eyes, savouring the attention...

Since arriving in Australia I have enjoyed a filled and lively house. Often busy but never chaotic. I have explored the overgrown garden with August and picked rose petals to add to new, delicious, recipes I've discovered. My papa is building my childhood cubby house that never was. It will be August's to enjoy instead and it is so beautiful.
I have seen lots of people from what was a different life and have been delving through boxes of old belongings bringing back almost forgotten memories.
August is so loved. People melt at the sight of him and it's such a pleasure to introduce him to the people I grew up with and show him the places I used to play when I was a child. I already feel like it will be hard to leave again, leave the warmth and the garden and people I know so well.
